How To Install elpa-wgrep on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install elpa-wgrep on Kali Linux.

What is elpa-wgrep

elpa-wgrep is:

Wgrep provides master pattern buffers that are then used to edit multiple Emacs buffers simultaneously. In this sense it is like what a REPL for sed would look like. With the exception of “pattern buffers” it is similar to the Emacs built-in functions replace-regexp and query-replace. Wgrep also provides backends that use Ack and The Silver Searcher.

This package provides the core library and wgrep-mode.

There are three methods to install elpa-wgrep on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install elpa-wgrep Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install elpa-wgrep using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install elpa-wgrep

Install elpa-wgrep Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install elpa-wgrep using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install elpa-wgrep

Install elpa-wgrep Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install elpa-wgrep using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install elpa-wgrep

How To Uninstall elpa-wgrep on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the elpa-wgrep package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove elpa-wgrep

Uninstall elpa-wgrep And Its Dependencies

To uninstall elpa-wgrep and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove elpa-wgrep

Remove elpa-wgrep Configurations and Data

To remove elpa-wgrep configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge elpa-wgrep
