What is elpa-helm

elpa-helm is:

Helm is incremental completion and selection narrowing framework for Emacs. It will help steer you in the right direction when you’re looking for stuff in Emacs (like buffers, files, etc).

Helm is a fork of anything.el originally written by Tamas Patrovic and can be considered to be its successor. Helm sets out to clean up the legacy code in anything.el and provide a cleaner, leaner and more modular tool, that’s not tied in the trap of backward compatibility.

There are three methods to install elpa-helm on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install elpa-helm Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install elpa-helm using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install elpa-helm

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install elpa-helm using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install elpa-helm

Install elpa-helm Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install elpa-helm using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install elpa-helm

How To Uninstall elpa-helm on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the elpa-helm package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove elpa-helm

Uninstall elpa-helm And Its Dependencies

To uninstall elpa-helm and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove elpa-helm

Remove elpa-helm Configurations and Data

To remove elpa-helm configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge elpa-helm
