How To Install elpa-elpher on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install elpa-elpher
on Kali Linux.
What is elpa-elpher
elpa-elpher is:
Elpher aims to provide a practical and friendly gopher and gemini client for GNU Emacs. It supports:
- intuitive keyboard and mouse-driven browsing,
- out-of-the-box compatibility with evil-mode,
- clickable web and gopher links in plain text,
- caching of visited sites,
- pleasant and configurable colouring of Gopher directories,
- direct visualisation of image files,
- a simple bookmark management system,
- gopher connections using TLS encryption,
- the fledgling Gemini protocol,
- the greybeard Finger protocol.
To launch Elpher, simply use ‘M-x elpher’. This will open a start page containing information on key bindings and suggested starting points for your gopher exploration.

There are three methods to install elpa-elpher
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install elpa-elpher Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install elpa-elpher
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install elpa-elpher
Install elpa-elpher Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install elpa-elpher
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install elpa-elpher
Install elpa-elpher Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install elpa-elpher
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install elpa-elpher
How To Uninstall elpa-elpher on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the elpa-elpher
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove elpa-elpher
Uninstall elpa-elpher And Its Dependencies
To uninstall elpa-elpher
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove elpa-elpher
Remove elpa-elpher Configurations and Data
To remove elpa-elpher
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge elpa-elpher
Remove elpa-elpher configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove elpa-elpher
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge elpa-elpher
