How To Install ejabberd on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ejabberd on Kali Linux.
What is ejabberd
ejabberd is:
ejabberd is a Jabber/XMPP + MQTT + SIP server written in Erlang, featuring:
- distributed operation with load-balancing across a cluster;
- fault-tolerant database replication and storage on multiple nodes, allowing nodes to be added or replaced “on the fly”;
- virtual hosting (several virtual domains can be served using a single ejabberd instance);
- XMPP compliance;
- MQTT 5 compliance;
- SIP service;
- web-based administration;
- SSL/TLS support;
- conferencing via Multi-User Chat;
- Jabber Users Directory, based on users’ vCards;
- service discovery;
- shared roster.
There are three methods to install ejabberd on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ejabberd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install ejabberd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ejabberdInstall ejabberd Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install ejabberd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ejabberdInstall ejabberd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install ejabberd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ejabberdHow To Uninstall ejabberd on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the ejabberd package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ejabberdUninstall ejabberd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ejabberd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ejabberdRemove ejabberd Configurations and Data
To remove ejabberd configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ejabberdRemove ejabberd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ejabberd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ejabberdDependencies
