What is edac-utils

EDAC is the current set of drivers in the Linux kernel that handle detection of ECC errors from memory controllers for most chipsets on i386 and x86_64 architectures. This userspace component consists of an init script which makes sure EDAC drivers and DIMM labels are loaded at system startup, as well as a library and utility for reporting current error counts from the EDAC sysfs files. We can use yum or dnf to install edac-utils on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install edac-utils.

Install edac-utils on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install edac-utils using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install edac-utils

Install edac-utils on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install edac-utils using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install edac-utils

How To Uninstall edac-utils on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the edac-utils package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove edac-utils
