How To Install ed on Rocky Linux 8

on Rocky Linux 8.
What is ed
Ed is a line-oriented text editor, used to create, display, and modify text files (both interactively and via shell scripts). For most purposes, ed has been replaced in normal usage by full-screen editors (emacs and vi, for example). Ed was the original UNIX editor, and may be used by some programs. In general, however, you probably don’t need to install it and you probably won’t use it.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install ed
on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ed.
Install ed on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install ed
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install ed
Install ed on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install ed
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install ed
How To Uninstall ed on Rocky Linux 8
To uninstall only the ed
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove ed
