How To Install ed on CentOS 7
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ed on CentOS 7.
What is ed
Ed is a line-oriented text editor, used to create, display, and modify text files (both interactively and via shell scripts). For most purposes, ed has been replaced in normal usage by full-screen editors (emacs and vi, for example). Ed was the original UNIX editor, and may be used by some programs. In general, however, you probably don’t need to install it and you probably won’t use it.
We can use yum or dnf to install ed on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ed.
Install ed on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install ed using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install ed
Install ed on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install ed using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install ed
How To Uninstall ed on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the ed package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove ed
