How To Install eclipse-platform on Debian 9

What is eclipse-platform
eclipse-platform is:
The Eclipse Platform is an open and extensible platform for anything and yet nothing in particular. It provides a foundation for constructing and running integrated software-development tools. The Eclipse Platform allows tool builders to independently develop tools that integrate with other people’s tools so seamlessly you can’t tell where one tool ends and another starts.
This package provides the Eclipse Platform and is the base for all Eclipse development plug-ins, but it does not include any. These are available in different packages, for example:
- eclipse-jdt Java Development Tools
- eclipse-pde Plug-in Development Tools
- eclipse-cdt C/C++ Development Tools
There are three methods to install eclipse-platform
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install eclipse-platform Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install eclipse-platform
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install eclipse-platform
Install eclipse-platform Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install eclipse-platform
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install eclipse-platform
Install eclipse-platform Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install eclipse-platform
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install eclipse-platform
How To Uninstall eclipse-platform on Debian 9
To uninstall only the eclipse-platform
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove eclipse-platform
Uninstall eclipse-platform And Its Dependencies
To uninstall eclipse-platform
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove eclipse-platform
Remove eclipse-platform Configurations and Data
To remove eclipse-platform
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge eclipse-platform
Remove eclipse-platform configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove eclipse-platform
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge eclipse-platform
