How To Install earlyoom on Rocky Linux 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install earlyoom
on Rocky Linux 8.
What is earlyoom
The oom-killer generally has a bad reputation among Linux users. This may be part of the reason Linux invokes it only when it has absolutely no other choice. It will swap out the desktop environment, drop the whole page cache and empty every buffer before it will ultimately kill a process. At least that’s what I think what it will do. I have yet to be patient enough to wait for it, sitting in front of an unresponsive system.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install earlyoom
on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install earlyoom.
Install earlyoom on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install earlyoom
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install earlyoom
Install earlyoom on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install earlyoom
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install earlyoom
How To Uninstall earlyoom on Rocky Linux 8
To uninstall only the earlyoom
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove earlyoom
