How To Install earlyoom on CentOS 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install earlyoom on CentOS 8.
What is earlyoom
The oom-killer generally has a bad reputation among Linux users. This may be part of the reason Linux invokes it only when it has absolutely no other choice. It will swap out the desktop environment, drop the whole page cache and empty every buffer before it will ultimately kill a process. At least that’s what I think what it will do. I have yet to be patient enough to wait for it, sitting in front of an unresponsive system.
We can use yum or dnf to install earlyoom on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install earlyoom.
Install earlyoom on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install earlyoom using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install earlyoom
Install earlyoom on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install earlyoom using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install earlyoom
How To Uninstall earlyoom on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the earlyoom package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove earlyoom
