How To Install dynamips on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install dynamips on Kali Linux.
What is dynamips
dynamips is:
Dynamips emulates Cisco 7200/3600/3725/3745/2600/1700 Routers on a traditional PC. You can use dynamips to create labs. It uses IOS Images (which are not part of this package). Of course, this emulator cannot replace a real router.
It is simply a complementary tool to real labs for administrators of Cisco networks or people wanting to pass their CCNA/CCNP/CCIE exams. For a Command Line Interface for dynamips see dynagen or gns3 package.
There are three methods to install dynamips on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dynamips Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dynamips using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install dynamipsInstall dynamips Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dynamips using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install dynamipsInstall dynamips Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dynamips using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install dynamipsHow To Uninstall dynamips on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the dynamips package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove dynamipsUninstall dynamips And Its Dependencies
To uninstall dynamips and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove dynamipsRemove dynamips Configurations and Data
To remove dynamips configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge dynamipsRemove dynamips configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove dynamips configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dynamipsDependencies
