In this tutorial we learn how to install dwz on CentOS 7.

What is dwz

The dwz package contains a program that attempts to optimize DWARF debugging information contained in ELF shared libraries and ELF executables for size, by replacing DWARF information representation with equivalent smaller representation where possible and by reducing the amount of duplication using techniques from DWARF standard appendix E - creating DW_TAG_partial_unit compilation units (CUs) for duplicated information and using DW_TAG_imported_unit to import it into each CU that needs it.

We can use yum or dnf to install dwz on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install dwz.

Install dwz on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install dwz using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install dwz

Install dwz on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install dwz using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install dwz

How To Uninstall dwz on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the dwz package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove dwz
