How To Install dwdiff on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install dwdiff on Kali Linux.

What is dwdiff

dwdiff is:

dwdiff is a diff program that operates at the word level instead of the line level. It is different from wdiff in that it allows the user to specify what should be considered whitespace, and in that it takes an optional list of characters that should be considered delimiters. Delimiters are single characters that are treated as if they are words, even when there is no whitespace separating them from preceding words or delimiters. dwdiff is mostly commandline compatible with wdiff. Only the –autopager, –terminal and –avoid-wraps options are not supported.

The default output from dwdiff is the new text, with the deleted and inserted parts annotated with markers. Command line options are available to change both what is printed, and the markers.

There are three methods to install dwdiff on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dwdiff Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dwdiff using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install dwdiff

Install dwdiff Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install dwdiff using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install dwdiff

Install dwdiff Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dwdiff using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dwdiff

How To Uninstall dwdiff on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the dwdiff package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dwdiff

Uninstall dwdiff And Its Dependencies

To uninstall dwdiff and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dwdiff

Remove dwdiff Configurations and Data

To remove dwdiff configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dwdiff

Remove dwdiff configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove dwdiff configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dwdiff
