What is dvipng

dvipng is:

dvipng makes PNG graphics from DVI files as obtained from TeX and its relatives. It is intended to produce anti-aliased screen-resolution images as fast as is possible. This makes dvipng suitable for generating large amounts of images on-the-fly.

dvipng does not read the postamble, so it can be started before TeX finishes. It can read options interactively through stdin, and all options are usable. One can even change the input file through this interface.

dvipng supports PK, VF, PostScript Type1, and TrueType fonts, color specials and simple PostScript inclusion specials.

There are three methods to install dvipng on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dvipng Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dvipng using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install dvipng

After updating apt database, We can install dvipng using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install dvipng

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dvipng using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dvipng

How To Uninstall dvipng on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the dvipng package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dvipng

To uninstall dvipng and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dvipng

Remove dvipng Configurations and Data

To remove dvipng configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dvipng
