What is dvbcut

dvbcut is:

DVBcut is a Qt application that allows you to select certain parts of an MPEG transport stream (as received via Digital Video Broadcasting, DVB) and save these parts into a single MPEG output file. It follows a `keyhole surgery’’ approach where the input video and audio data is mostly kept unchanged, and only very few frames at the beginning and/or end of the selected range are re-encoded in order to obtain a valid MPEG file.

There are three methods to install dvbcut on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dvbcut Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dvbcut using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install dvbcut

Install dvbcut Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install dvbcut using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install dvbcut

Install dvbcut Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dvbcut using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dvbcut

How To Uninstall dvbcut on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the dvbcut package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dvbcut

To uninstall dvbcut and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dvbcut

To remove dvbcut configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dvbcut
