How To Install duplicity on Debian 12

In this tutorial we learn how to install duplicity
on Debian 12.
What is duplicity
duplicity is:
Duplicity backs directories by producing encrypted tar-format volumes and uploading them to a remote or local file server. Because duplicity uses librsync, the incremental archives are space efficient and only record the parts of files that have changed since the last backup. Because duplicity uses GnuPG to encrypt and/or sign these archives, they will be safe from spying and/or modification by the server.
There are three methods to install duplicity
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install duplicity Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get

sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install duplicity
using apt-get

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

sudo apt-get -y autoremove duplicity
Remove duplicity Configurations and Data
To remove duplicity
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge duplicity
