Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install duperemove on CentOS 8.
What is duperemove
Duperemove is a simple tool for finding duplicated extents and submitting them for deduplication. When given a list of files it will hash their contents on a block by block basis and compare those hashes to each other, finding and categorizing extents that match each other. When given the -d option, duperemove will submit those extents for deduplication using the btrfs-extent-same ioctl.
We can use yum or dnf to install duperemove on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install duperemove.
Install duperemove on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install duperemove using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install duperemove
Install duperemove on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install duperemove using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install duperemove
How To Uninstall duperemove on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the duperemove package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove duperemove
