How To Install dump on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install dump on Kali Linux.
What is dump
dump is:
This is a port of the 4.4BSD filesystem backup suite. Dump examines files on a filesystem and determines which files need to be backed up. These files are copied to the given disk, tape or other storage medium for safe keeping.
The restore command performs the inverse function of dump. A full backup of a filesystem may be restored and subsequent incremental backups layered on top of it. Single files and directory subtrees may be restored from full or partial backups.
There are three methods to install dump on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dump Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dump using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install dumpInstall dump Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dump using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

To uninstall only the dump package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove dumpUninstall dump And Its Dependencies
To uninstall dump and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove dumpRemove dump Configurations and Data
To remove dump configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge dumpRemove dump configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
