How To Install duc on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install duc
on Debian 9.
What is duc
duc is:
Duc maintains a database of accumulated sizes of directories of the file system, and allows you to query this database with some tools, or create fancy graphs showing you where your bytes are.
Duc comes with console utilities, ncursesw and X11 user interfaces and a CGI wrapper for disk usage querying and visualisation.
Duc is designed to scale to huge filesystems: it will index and display hundreds of millions of files on petabytes of storage without problems.
There are three methods to install duc
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install duc Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install duc
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install duc
Install duc Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install duc
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install duc
Install duc Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install duc
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install duc
How To Uninstall duc on Debian 9
To uninstall only the duc
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove duc
Uninstall duc And Its Dependencies
To uninstall duc
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove duc
Remove duc Configurations and Data
To remove duc
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge duc
Remove duc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge duc
