How To Install dpkg-awk on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install dpkg-awk on Kali Linux.

What is dpkg-awk

dpkg-awk is:

This script can parse the dpkg database files. It can do regular expressions on the fields, and only get what you want. It can also be made to output certain fields. As an added bonus, there is an option to sort the output.

‘dpkg-awk “Status: .* installed$” – Package Version Status’ will output all installed packages, with only the listed fields. ‘dpkg-awk -f=/var/lib/dpkg/available “Package:^[aA].*” – Package Version’ will output all available packages that start with the letter ‘A.’

There are three methods to install dpkg-awk on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dpkg-awk Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dpkg-awk using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install dpkg-awk using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dpkg-awk using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dpkg-awk

How To Uninstall dpkg-awk on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the dpkg-awk package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dpkg-awk

Uninstall dpkg-awk And Its Dependencies

To uninstall dpkg-awk and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dpkg-awk

Remove dpkg-awk Configurations and Data

To remove dpkg-awk configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dpkg-awk
