How To Install dnsutils on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install dnsutils
on Debian 9.
What is dnsutils
dnsutils is:
The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) implements an Internet domain name server. BIND is the most widely-used name server software on the Internet, and is supported by the Internet Software Consortium, www.isc.org.
This package delivers various client programs related to DNS that are derived from the BIND source tree.
- dig - query the DNS in various ways
- nslookup - the older way to do it
- nsupdate - perform dynamic updates (See RFC2136)
There are three methods to install dnsutils
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dnsutils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install dnsutils
using apt-get

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dnsutils

sudo apt-get -y purge dnsutils
