How To Install dnschef on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install dnschef on Kali Linux.
What is dnschef
dnschef is:
DNSChef is a highly configurable DNS proxy for Penetration Testers and Malware Analysts. A DNS proxy (aka “Fake DNS”) is a tool used for application network traffic analysis among other uses. For example, a DNS proxy can be used to fake requests for “badguy.com” to point to a local machine for termination or interception instead of a real host somewhere on the Internet.
There are three methods to install dnschef on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dnschef Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dnschef using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install dnschefInstall dnschef Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dnschef using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install dnschefInstall dnschef Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dnschef using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install dnschefHow To Uninstall dnschef on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the dnschef package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove dnschefUninstall dnschef And Its Dependencies
To uninstall dnschef and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove dnschefRemove dnschef Configurations and Data
To remove dnschef configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge dnschefRemove dnschef configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove dnschef configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dnschefDependencies
