What is dnet-common

dnet-common is:

This is the base package for Linux DECnet. It contains the necessary configuration files and a script to set up the MAC address of your Ethernet card(s) at boot-up.

You will also need to be running a 2.4+ kernel and have DECnet either built as a module or compiled into the kernel.

To do useful work with DECnet you will need the libdnet package and probably also dnet-progs.

There are three methods to install dnet-common on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dnet-common Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dnet-common using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install dnet-common using apt by running the following command:

Install dnet-common Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dnet-common using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dnet-common

How To Uninstall dnet-common on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the dnet-common package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dnet-common

To uninstall dnet-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dnet-common

Remove dnet-common Configurations and Data

To remove dnet-common configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dnet-common

We can use the following command to remove dnet-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
