How To Install dict-wn on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install dict-wn
on Debian 9.
What is dict-wn
dict-wn is:
WordNet(C) is an on-line lexical reference system whose design is inspired by current psycholinguistic theories of human lexical memory. English nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are organized into synonym sets, each representing one underlying lexical concept. Different relations link the synonym sets.
WordNet was developed by the Cognitive Science Laboratory at Princeton University under the direction of Professor George A. Miller (Principal Investigator).
This package will be of limited use without the server found in the dictd package.
There are three methods to install dict-wn
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dict-wn Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install dict-wn
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install dict-wn
Install dict-wn Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install dict-wn
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install dict-wn
Install dict-wn Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install dict-wn
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install dict-wn
How To Uninstall dict-wn on Debian 9
To uninstall only the dict-wn
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove dict-wn
Uninstall dict-wn And Its Dependencies
To uninstall dict-wn
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove dict-wn
Remove dict-wn Configurations and Data
To remove dict-wn
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge dict-wn
