How To Install dhcp on CentOS 7
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install dhcp on CentOS 7.
What is dhcp
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a protocol which allows individual devices on an IP network to get their own network configuration information (IP address, subnetmask, broadcast address, etc.) from a DHCP server. The overall purpose of DHCP is to make it easier to administer a large network. To use DHCP on your network, install a DHCP service (or relay agent), and on clients run a DHCP client daemon. The dhcp package provides the ISC DHCP service and relay agent.
We can use yum or dnf to install dhcp on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install dhcp.
Install dhcp on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install dhcp using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install dhcp
Install dhcp on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install dhcp using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install dhcp
How To Uninstall dhcp on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the dhcp package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove dhcp
