How To Install dhclient on CentOS 7
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install dhclient
on CentOS 7.
What is dhclient
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a protocol which allows individual devices on an IP network to get their own network configuration information (IP address, subnetmask, broadcast address, etc.) from a DHCP server. The overall purpose of DHCP is to make it easier to administer a large network. To use DHCP on your network, install a DHCP service (or relay agent), and on clients run a DHCP client daemon. The dhclient package provides the ISC DHCP client daemon.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install dhclient
on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install dhclient.
Install dhclient on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install dhclient
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install dhclient
Install dhclient on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install dhclient
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install dhclient
How To Uninstall dhclient on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the dhclient
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove dhclient
