How To Install dh-runit on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install dh-runit on Kali Linux.

What is dh-runit

dh-runit is:

dh-runit provides a debhelper sequence addon named ‘runit’ and the dh_runit command.

The dh_runit command installs runscripts and adds the appropriate code to the postinst, prerm and postrm maint scripts to properly enable/disable and purge runscripts. When runit is PID 1 the maint script code also takes care of restarting services during upgrades, when appropriate.

There are three methods to install dh-runit on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dh-runit Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dh-runit using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install dh-runit

Install dh-runit Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install dh-runit using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install dh-runit

Install dh-runit Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dh-runit using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dh-runit

How To Uninstall dh-runit on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the dh-runit package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dh-runit

Uninstall dh-runit And Its Dependencies

To uninstall dh-runit and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dh-runit

Remove dh-runit Configurations and Data

To remove dh-runit configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dh-runit

Remove dh-runit configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove dh-runit configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dh-runit
