How To Install dh-cargo on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install dh-cargo on Kali Linux.

What is dh-cargo

dh-cargo is:

dh-cargo provides a debhelper buildsystem to build Rust crates using Cargo.

This builds Debian rust crates to be installed into a system-level crate registry in /usr/share/cargo/registry containing crates that can be used and Build-Depended upon by other Debian packages.

Debian packages generated by debcargo use this buildsystem; packagers are not expected to use this directly. If you have a multi-language program such as firefox or librsvg that includes private Rust crates not exposed to others, you should instead use our cargo wrapper /usr/share/cargo/bin/cargo in the cargo package, and Build-Depends on that instead of this package.

There are three methods to install dh-cargo on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dh-cargo Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dh-cargo using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install dh-cargo

Install dh-cargo Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install dh-cargo using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install dh-cargo

Install dh-cargo Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dh-cargo using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dh-cargo

How To Uninstall dh-cargo on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the dh-cargo package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dh-cargo

Uninstall dh-cargo And Its Dependencies

To uninstall dh-cargo and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dh-cargo

Remove dh-cargo Configurations and Data

To remove dh-cargo configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dh-cargo

Remove dh-cargo configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove dh-cargo configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dh-cargo
