How To Install devilspie2 on Kali Linux

What is devilspie2

devilspie2 is:

Devilspie2 is a window matching utility, allowing the user to perform scripted actions on windows as they are created. For example, you can script a terminal program to always be positioned at a specific screen position, or automatically position a window on a specific workspace.

It is a continuation of Ross Burton’s project Devilspie, with the most significant change that the symbolic expressions of that project are replaced with a Lua interpreter.

There are three methods to install devilspie2 on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install devilspie2 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install devilspie2 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install devilspie2

Install devilspie2 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install devilspie2 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install devilspie2

Install devilspie2 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update
