What is desktop-file-utils
.desktop files are used to describe an application for inclusion in GNOME or KDE menus. This package contains desktop-file-validate which checks whether a .desktop file complies with the specification at http which installs a desktop file to the standard directory, optionally fixing it up in the process.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install desktop-file-utils
on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install desktop-file-utils.
Install desktop-file-utils on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install desktop-file-utils
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install desktop-file-utils
Install desktop-file-utils on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install desktop-file-utils
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install desktop-file-utils
How To Uninstall desktop-file-utils on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the desktop-file-utils
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove desktop-file-utils
