How To Install db-upgrade-util on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install db-upgrade-util on Kali Linux.

What is db-upgrade-util

db-upgrade-util is:

This empty package depends on the old (from previous stable release) utilities package containing different tools for manipulating databases and installs unversioned links to current database utilities.

This package exists to help package maintainers which need to upgrade Berkeley DB database file. The package which needs to perform an database upgrade will need to depend on db-util and db-upgrade-util and call commands as described in: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/upgrading/upgrade_process.html

There are three methods to install db-upgrade-util on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install db-upgrade-util Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install db-upgrade-util using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install db-upgrade-util

Install db-upgrade-util Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install db-upgrade-util using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install db-upgrade-util

Install db-upgrade-util Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install db-upgrade-util using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install db-upgrade-util

How To Uninstall db-upgrade-util on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the db-upgrade-util package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove db-upgrade-util

Uninstall db-upgrade-util And Its Dependencies

To uninstall db-upgrade-util and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove db-upgrade-util

Remove db-upgrade-util Configurations and Data

To remove db-upgrade-util configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge db-upgrade-util
