How To Install daemonize on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install daemonize on Kali Linux.
What is daemonize
daemonize is:
As defined in W. Richard Stevens?? 1990 book, UNIX Network Programming (Addison-Wesley, 1990), a daemon is ??a process that executes ??in the background?? i.e., without an associated terminal or login shell) either waiting for some event to occur, or waiting to perform some specified task on a periodic basis.?? Upon startup, a typical daemon program will:
- Close all open file descriptors (especially standard input, standard output and standard error)
- Change its working directory to the root filesystem, to ensure that it doesn??t tie up another filesystem and prevent it from being unmounted
- Reset its umask value
- Run in the background (i.e., fork)
- Disassociate from its process group (usually a shell), to insulate itself from signals (such as HUP) sent to the process group
- Ignore all terminal I/O signals
- Disassociate from the control terminal (and take steps not to reacquire one)
- Handle any SIGCLD signals
Most programs that are designed to be run as daemons do that work for themselves. However, you??ll occasionally run across one that does not. When you must run a daemon program that does not properly make itself into a true Unix daemon, you can use daemonize to force it to run as a true daemon.
There are three methods to install daemonize on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install daemonize Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install daemonize using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install daemonizeInstall daemonize Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install daemonize using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install daemonizeInstall daemonize Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install daemonize using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install daemonizeHow To Uninstall daemonize on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the daemonize package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove daemonizeUninstall daemonize And Its Dependencies
To uninstall daemonize and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove daemonizeRemove daemonize Configurations and Data
To remove daemonize configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge daemonizeRemove daemonize configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove daemonize configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge daemonizeDependencies
daemonize have the following dependencies:
