How To Install cxref on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install cxref on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is cxref
cxref is:
A program that takes as input a series of C source files and produces a LaTeX or HTML document containing a cross reference of the files/functions/variables in the program, including documentation taken from suitably formatted source code comments. The documentation is stored in the C source file in specially formatted comments, making it simple to maintain. The cross referencing includes lists of functions called, callers of each function, usage of global variables, header file inclusion, macro definitions and type definitions. Works for ANSI C, including many gcc extensions.
There are three methods to install cxref on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cxref Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cxref using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cxref
Install cxref Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cxref using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cxref
Install cxref Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cxref using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cxref
How To Uninstall cxref on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the cxref package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cxref
Uninstall cxref And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cxref and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cxref
Remove cxref Configurations and Data
To remove cxref configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cxref
Remove cxref configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cxref configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cxref
