How To Install cw on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install cw on Kali Linux.
What is cw
cw is:
The unixcw project provides support for learning to use Morse.
This package provides two executables:
- cw - a simple command line application that converts key-presses to Morse code that can be heard through the console buzzer or a sound card;
- cwgen - a program that generates groups of random characters for Morse code practice, which can be piped to the cw program.
It also includes example files (with the extension “cw”) containing commands which can be used to change properties such as the speed, tone, and spacing of characters.
There are three methods to install cw on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cw Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install cw using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cwInstall cw Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install cw using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cwInstall cw Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install cw using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cwHow To Uninstall cw on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the cw package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cwUninstall cw And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cw and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cwRemove cw Configurations and Data
To remove cw configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cwRemove cw configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cw configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cwDependencies
