How To Install ctop on Ubuntu 22.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install ctop
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is ctop
ctop is:
ctop will help you see what’s going on at the container level. Basically, containers are a logical group of processes isolated using kernel’s cgroups and namespaces. Recently, they have been made popular by Docker and they are also heavily used under the hood by systemd and a load of container tools like lxc, rocket, lmctfy and many others.
Under the hood, ctop will collect all metrics it can from cgroups in realtime and render them to instantly give you an overview of the global system health.
It currently collects metrics related to cpu, memory and block IO usage as well as metadata such as owning user (mostly for systemd based containers), uptime and attempts to guess the container managing technology behind.
There are three methods to install ctop
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ctop Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ctop
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ctop
Install ctop Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ctop
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ctop
Install ctop Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ctop
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ctop
How To Uninstall ctop on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the ctop
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ctop
Uninstall ctop And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ctop
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ctop
Remove ctop Configurations and Data
To remove ctop
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ctop
Remove ctop configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ctop
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ctop
