How To Install crypto-policies on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install crypto-policies
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is crypto-policies
crypto-policies is:
“crypto-policies” is a utility to unify the crypto policies used by different applications and libraries. The current implementations works by setting the desired policy in /etc/crypto-policies/config. After this file is changed the script ‘update-crypto-policies’ should be executed, and the new policies will activate.
The supported back ends are:
- GnuTLS
- OpenSSL
- NSS
- BIND9
- libkrb5
- OpenSSH
- Java (OpenJDK)
- libssh
- libreswan
There are three methods to install crypto-policies
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install crypto-policies Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install crypto-policies
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install crypto-policies
Install crypto-policies Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install crypto-policies
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install crypto-policies
Install crypto-policies Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install crypto-policies
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install crypto-policies
How To Uninstall crypto-policies on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the crypto-policies
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove crypto-policies
Uninstall crypto-policies And Its Dependencies
To uninstall crypto-policies
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove crypto-policies
Remove crypto-policies Configurations and Data
To remove crypto-policies
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge crypto-policies
Remove crypto-policies configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove crypto-policies
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge crypto-policies
