How To Install cpufreqd on Debian 11
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install cpufreqd on Debian 11.
What is cpufreqd
cpufreqd is:
cpufreqd is meant to be a replacement of the speedstep applet you can find on some other OS, it monitors the system status and selects the most appropriate CPU level. It is fully configurable and easily extensible through the many available plug-ins (more to come). Despite its name it can be used to control also the NForce2-Atxp1 voltage regulator and the core and memory clock for NVidia cards (see README.Debian).
You need a CPUFreq driver and either APM, ACPI (a recent version) or PMU enabled in your kernel in order for this daemon to work.
There are three methods to install cpufreqd on Debian 11. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cpufreqd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cpufreqd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cpufreqd
Install cpufreqd Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cpufreqd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cpufreqd
Install cpufreqd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cpufreqd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cpufreqd
How To Uninstall cpufreqd on Debian 11
To uninstall only the cpufreqd package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cpufreqd
Uninstall cpufreqd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cpufreqd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cpufreqd
Remove cpufreqd Configurations and Data
To remove cpufreqd configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cpufreqd
Remove cpufreqd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cpufreqd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cpufreqd
