In this tutorial we learn how to install cppcheck on CentOS 7.

What is cppcheck

Cppcheck is a static analysis tool for C/C++ code. Unlike C/C++ compilers and many other analysis tools it does not detect syntax errors in the code. Cppcheck primarily detects the types of bugs that the compilers normally do not detect. The goal is to detect only real errors in the code (i.e. have zero false positives).

We can use yum or dnf to install cppcheck on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install cppcheck.

Install cppcheck on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install cppcheck using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install cppcheck

Install cppcheck on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install cppcheck using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install cppcheck

How To Uninstall cppcheck on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the cppcheck package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove cppcheck
