How To Install cplay-ng on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install cplay-ng on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is cplay-ng
cplay-ng is:
simple curses audio player with a textual user interface written in Python. It aims to provide a power-user-friendly interface with simple filelist and playlist control.
Instead of building an elaborate database of your music library, cplay allows you to quickly browse the filesystem and enqueue files, directories, and playlists.
The original cplay was started by Ulf Betlehem in 1998 and is no longer maintained. This is a rewrite that aims to stay true to the original design while evolving with a shifting environment.
Supported extensions: mp3, ogg, oga, opus, flac, m4a, m4b, wav, mid, wma.
There are three methods to install cplay-ng on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cplay-ng Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cplay-ng using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cplay-ng
Install cplay-ng Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cplay-ng using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cplay-ng
Install cplay-ng Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cplay-ng using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cplay-ng
How To Uninstall cplay-ng on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the cplay-ng package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cplay-ng
Uninstall cplay-ng And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cplay-ng and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cplay-ng
Remove cplay-ng Configurations and Data
To remove cplay-ng configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cplay-ng
Remove cplay-ng configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cplay-ng configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cplay-ng
