How To Install courier-pop on Ubuntu 18.04

What is courier-pop
courier-pop is:
The Courier mail transfer agent (MTA) is an integrated mail/groupware server based on open commodity protocols, such as ESMTP, IMAP, POP3, LDAP, TLS, and HTTP. Courier provides ESMTP, IMAP, POP3, webmail, and mailing list services within a single, consistent, framework.
This package provide the POP3 daemon for Courier. It only supports email stored in the Maildir format.
POP3 over TLS is handled by the regular POP3 daemon from in conjunction with the TLS wrapper.
There are three methods to install courier-pop
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install courier-pop Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install courier-pop
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install courier-pop

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install courier-pop
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install courier-pop
Install courier-pop Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install courier-pop
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install courier-pop
How To Uninstall courier-pop on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the courier-pop
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove courier-pop
Uninstall courier-pop And Its Dependencies
To uninstall courier-pop
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove courier-pop
Remove courier-pop Configurations and Data
To remove courier-pop
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge courier-pop
