How To Install coq on Debian 12

In this tutorial we learn how to install coq
on Debian 12.
What is coq
coq is:
Coq is a proof assistant for higher-order logic, which allows the development of computer programs consistent with their formal specification. It is developed using Objective Caml and Camlp5.
This package provides coqtop, a command line interface to Coq.
A graphical interface for Coq is provided in the coqide package. Coq can also be used with ProofGeneral, which allows proofs to be edited using emacs and xemacs. This requires the proofgeneral package to be installed.
There are three methods to install coq
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install coq Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install coq
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install coq
Install coq Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install coq
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install coq
Install coq Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install coq
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install coq
How To Uninstall coq on Debian 12
To uninstall only the coq
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove coq
Uninstall coq And Its Dependencies
To uninstall coq
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove coq
Remove coq Configurations and Data
To remove coq
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge coq
Remove coq configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove coq
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge coq
