How To Install console-data on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install console-data
on Kali Linux.
What is console-data
This package provides the standard data files for the Linux console tools.
This includes keyboard definitions (keymaps), console fonts for various encodings, maps defining the standard charsets for use by text applications, and fallback tables allowing to approximate an unavailable character’s glyph with the glyph of another character in the current font.
There are three ways to install console-data
on Kali Linux . We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install console-data Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install console-data
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install console-data

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude

How To Uninstall console-data on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the console-data
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove console-data

To uninstall console-data
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove console-data
Remove console-data Configurations and Data
To remove console-data
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge console-data
Remove console-data configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove console-data
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge console-data
