In this tutorial we learn how to install connman-gtk on Kali Linux.

What is connman-gtk

connman-gtk is:

connman-gtk is a fully-featured GTK3 GUI for ConnMan with system tray support.

connman-gtk targets all WMs/DMs. It works on any Linux WM/DM which provides a freedesktop-compliant system tray. (GNOME, KDE, Xfce, i3, awesome…)

It supports the following features provided by the ConnMan API:

  • enable/disable a technology (Wired, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, P2P)
  • connect to/disconnect from a service
  • configure a service (IPv4, IPv6, DNS, NTP, proxies)
  • share current connection (tethering)

connman-gtk is intended as the de-facto replacement for connman-ui.

There are three methods to install connman-gtk on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install connman-gtk Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install connman-gtk using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install connman-gtk

Install connman-gtk Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install connman-gtk using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install connman-gtk

Install connman-gtk Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install connman-gtk using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install connman-gtk

How To Uninstall connman-gtk on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the connman-gtk package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove connman-gtk

Uninstall connman-gtk And Its Dependencies

To uninstall connman-gtk and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove connman-gtk

Remove connman-gtk Configurations and Data

To remove connman-gtk configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge connman-gtk

Remove connman-gtk configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove connman-gtk configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge connman-gtk
