How To Install compartment on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install compartment on Kali Linux.
What is compartment
Compartment was designed to allow safe execution of privileged and/or untrusted executables and services. It can execute a process:
- Setting specific Linux capabilities
- Chrooting it to a certain location
- setting the user or group it will run with
- running a program before it is executed These features can be used to minimize the risk of a trojanized or vulnerable program/service.
There are three ways to install compartment on Kali Linux . We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install compartment Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install compartment using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install compartment
Install compartment Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install compartment using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install compartment
Install compartment Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install compartment using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install compartment
How To Uninstall compartment on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the compartment package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove compartment
Uninstall compartment And Its Dependencies
To uninstall compartment and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove compartment
Remove compartment Configurations and Data
To remove compartment configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge compartment
Remove compartment configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove compartment configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge compartment
