How To Install commix on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install commix on Kali Linux.

What is commix

commix is:

This package contains Commix (short for [comm]and [i]njection e[x]ploiter). It has a simple environment and it can be used, from web developers, penetration testers or even security researchers to test web applications with the view to find bugs, errors or vulnerabilities related to command injection attacks. By using this tool, it is very easy to find and exploit a command injection vulnerability in a certain vulnerable parameter or string. Commix is written in Python programming language.

There are three methods to install commix on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install commix Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install commix using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install commix

Install commix Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install commix using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install commix

Install commix Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install commix using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install commix

How To Uninstall commix on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the commix package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove commix

Uninstall commix And Its Dependencies

To uninstall commix and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove commix

Remove commix Configurations and Data

To remove commix configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge commix
