In this tutorial we learn how to install cobbler on CentOS 7.

What is cobbler

Cobbler is a network install server. Cobbler supports PXE, ISO virtualized installs, and re-installing existing Linux machines. The last two modes use a helper tool, ‘koan’, that integrates with cobbler. There is also a web interface ‘cobbler-web’. Cobbler’s advanced features include importing distributions from DVDs and rsync mirrors, kickstart templating, integrated yum mirroring, and built-in DHCP/DNS Management. Cobbler has a XMLRPC API for integration with other applications.

We can use yum or dnf to install cobbler on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install cobbler.

Install cobbler on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install cobbler using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install cobbler

Install cobbler on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install cobbler using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install cobbler

How To Uninstall cobbler on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the cobbler package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove cobbler
