How To Install clamav-milter on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install clamav-milter on Kali Linux.
What is clamav-milter
Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon in the clamav-daemon package, a command-line scanner in the clamav package, and a tool for automatic updating via the Internet in the clamav-freshclam package. The programs are based on libclamav, which can be used by other software.
This package contains the ClamAV milter for use with sendmail. It can be configured to be run either standalone, or using clamav-daemon.
There are three ways to install clamav-milter on Kali Linux . We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install clamav-milter Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install clamav-milter using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install clamav-milter
Install clamav-milter Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install clamav-milter using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install clamav-milter
Install clamav-milter Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install clamav-milter using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install clamav-milter
How To Uninstall clamav-milter on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the clamav-milter package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove clamav-milter
Uninstall clamav-milter And Its Dependencies
To uninstall clamav-milter and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove clamav-milter
Remove clamav-milter Configurations and Data
To remove clamav-milter configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge clamav-milter
Remove clamav-milter configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove clamav-milter configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge clamav-milter
