clamav-base is:
Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon in the clamav-daemon package, a command-line scanner in the clamav package, and a tool for automatic updating via the Internet in the clamav-freshclam package. The programs are based on libclamav, which can be used by other software.
This package mainly manages the clamav system account. It is not really useful without the clamav or clamav-daemon package.

There are three methods to install clamav-base
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get

After updating apt database, We can install clamav-base
using apt-get

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install clamav-base
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install clamav-base
Install clamav-base Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install clamav-base
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install clamav-base
How To Uninstall clamav-base on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the clamav-base
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove clamav-base
Uninstall clamav-base And Its Dependencies
To uninstall clamav-base
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove clamav-base
Remove clamav-base Configurations and Data
To remove clamav-base
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge clamav-base
Remove clamav-base configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove clamav-base
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge clamav-base
