How To Install clamav-base on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install clamav-base on Kali Linux.
What is clamav-base
clamav-base is:
Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon in the clamav-daemon package, a command-line scanner in the clamav package, and a tool for automatic updating via the Internet in the clamav-freshclam package. The programs are based on libclamav, which can be used by other software.
This package mainly manages the clamav system account. It is not really useful without the clamav or clamav-daemon package.
There are three methods to install clamav-base on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install clamav-base Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install clamav-base using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install clamav-baseInstall clamav-base Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install clamav-base using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install clamav-base using aptitude by running the following command:

To uninstall only the clamav-base package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove clamav-baseUninstall clamav-base And Its Dependencies
To uninstall clamav-base and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove clamav-baseRemove clamav-base Configurations and Data
To remove clamav-base configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge clamav-baseRemove clamav-base configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove clamav-base configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge clamav-baseDependencies
