What is checkpolicy

checkpolicy is:

Security-enhanced Linux is a patch of the Linux® kernel and a number of utilities with enhanced security functionality designed to add mandatory access controls to Linux. The Security-enhanced Linux kernel contains new architectural components originally developed to improve the security of the Flask operating system. These architectural components provide general support for the enforcement of many kinds of mandatory access control policies, including those based on the concepts of Type Enforcement®, Role-based Access Control, and Multi-level Security.

This package contains checkpolicy, the SELinux policy compiler. Only required for building policies. It uses libsepol to generate the binary policy. checkpolicy uses the static libsepol since it deals with low level details of the policy that have not been encapsulated/abstracted by a proper shared library interface.

There are three methods to install checkpolicy on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install checkpolicy Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install checkpolicy using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install checkpolicy

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install checkpolicy using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install checkpolicy

Install checkpolicy Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install checkpolicy using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install checkpolicy

How To Uninstall checkpolicy on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the checkpolicy package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove checkpolicy

Uninstall checkpolicy And Its Dependencies

To uninstall checkpolicy and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove checkpolicy

Remove checkpolicy Configurations and Data

To remove checkpolicy configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge checkpolicy

Remove checkpolicy configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove checkpolicy configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge checkpolicy
